A Bold Undertaking, Part 1: Spark February 24 2014

The story of Scout's Honor, told in five parts, will appear here before moving to the About Us page

The "we" of Scout's Honor is sometimes really just a "me." I'm Clare. I grew up in Chicago and moved west, to San Francisco, in 2005. I'm shy but adventurous, and I've always been fascinated by clothing and style--specifically, how people use their clothes to tell you more about who they are. In 2012, I decided to follow my lifelong dream of studying fashion by taking classes at City College of San Francisco. I also started reading a lot of fashion blogs, looking for styles that I both related to and was inspired by, and immediately felt a spark of recognition when I discovered blogs like Qwear and tomboy/femme.

Here were folks who, like me, were figuring out how to express their authentic selves through clothing. What I saw on these sites was mostly a combination of thrifted and mainstream-branded clothing, combined or styled in unexpected ways. Everyone looked great, but still, readers were always writing in to ask where to find more clothes like this, where to find clothes that fit and that were truly made for them. I wanted that, too. So I decided to make it happen.
